Bypassing the Lenovo Thinkpad E550 BIOS Password

There’s a lot of information out there already on how to bypass BIOS passwords which includes shorting but what I didn’t find were which EEPROM pins I needed to short on the particular motherboard found within my Thinkpad Model. Many videos available on YouTube go over the process in detail but use different motherboards whose layouts and pin arrangements differ. The websites I found on the subject didn’t have any information on my particular model (E550) either and weren’t of much help. With that said, here are a few photos so you can find what you need and avoid using trial and error to figure out which pins you need to short to bypass the BIOS password, hopefully saving you some time and aggravation.

 

Unlike the motherboard featured in the video I linked earlier, you need to short pins 6 and 7 while entering the BIOS password to successfully bypass it, as the above photo demonstrates, not pins 5 & 6.

I’m sure there’s a better way of doing this, but this is how I arranged everything to get the cables to reach and be able to short the proper pins while pressing enter, submitting the password
